HDR Toolbox

The HDR Toolbox is a collection of functions and scripts for reading/writing, assembling, processing, compressing, and visualizing HDR content; both images and videos. The toolbox is designed to run on MATLAB and it is compatible with its open source alternative Octave.

The first release of this work is accompanying "Advanced High Dynamic Range" a book by F. Banterle, A. Artusi, K. Debattista and A. Chalmers published by CRC Press in February 2011.

HDR image and video encoding is over 10 years old

High dynamic range image and video encoding is vividly discussed at the MPEG and JPEG meetings and the proposals for new standards are made. However, it may come as a surprise that the technology is over 10 years old. The first HDR image format containing “real pixels” was proposed by Greg Ward in 1991 [1,2]. By taking advantage of the correlation between red green and blue channels, the format employed a shared exponent and a separate per-channel mantissa in its pseudo-floating point pixel coding.

Short-Term Scientific Mission (STSM)

The STSM are aimed at strengthening the existing networks by allowing scientisrs to go to an institution or laboratory in another COST member state to foster collaboration, to learn a new technique or to take measurements using instruments and/or methods not available in their own laboratory. They are particulary intended for young scientists.

Application deadlines:
Applications will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.
